This year we had quite varied programs for the orchestras and were pleased to see the students rise to the technical and musical challenges that presented themselves.
Both orchestras performed varied literature; in Training Orchestra, we performed the music of Handel as well as more familiar Irish melodies. In Intermediate Orchestra, the variety was quite refreshing, from Brandenburg Concerti, Haydn Divertimenti and a solo quartet by Vivaldi to ballet favorites throughout the season. As a very special treat, one of our own members, sang an operatic aria accompanied by several members of the orchestra.
It is always interesting for me to note how Mr. Kagan approaches a difficult musical problem— when I point out a potentially difficult musical challenge, he always says to me, “Good, we will find a way to teach this to the kids and they will be better musicians because of it.” And they are!
We look forward to another exciting season of beautiful music in the 2017-2018 season!
