Schedule of Auditions

Auditions are held at the Wilmette Recreation Center for new members several times each year. Contact Mrs. Schramm at 847-328-0570 or canzonettayouth@canzonetta.us to schedule an audition or for more information.

Expectations and Preparation for Auditions

All Levels:

  • 2 pieces to show fluency of technique and sound.
  • Pieces need not be memorized. Accompanist not needed.
  • There will be sight reading. Playing time limited to 6 minutes for more advanced players,
    and shorter (2 minutes) for less advanced.

Training Orchestra:

Violin and viola:

  • Equivalency of having completed Suzuki Book 2
  • Scales in keys of G major 2 octaves, C major 2 octaves, F major one octave

Cello and basses:

  • Must be able to read music
  • Equivalency of latter part of Suzuki Book 1

Concert
Orchestra:

Violin and viola:

  • Equivalency of Suzuki Book 5 and above
  • 2 octave scales going into 3rd positions, scales in C, D, G, F major, B flat and E flat

Cello and bass:

  • Equivalency of Suzuki Book 3 and beyond, scales in C,D,G,F major

Advanced
Ensemble:

Violin:

  • Equivalency of Bach A minor Concerto, Kreutzer Etudes
  • 3 octave major scales in all keys

Viola:

  • Equivalency of Kreutzer Etudes
  • C major scale, 3 octave scales, all other keys, 2 or 3 octaves

Cello:

  • Equivalency of Vivaldi E minor Sonata or Prelude from G major Suite
  • Scales, all keys

Bass:

  • Level of standard string repertoire
  • Scales, all keys
